Your Past Is Not Your Future
Every successful person that you have ever heard of has failed at some point, to some degree. The great thing about failure is that it is only permanent once we have accepted it as such. For as long as you keep getting up and trying, the game is still on. You can fall one hundred times, but as long as you can stand back up afterwards, it does not matter. As we continue into 2018, many people look back on their year and can feel down on their luck. Regardless of how 2017 went, it does not matter. The dream is still alive and should be chased. Do not allow a rough time to break you down.
So many successful individuals have more failures than successes. Think about it: Abraham Lincoln was defeated eight times for various positions within politics. In fact, just two years before he was elected president, he was defeated for U.S. Senate! Two years before that, he could not even be elected for Vice President! Yet Lincoln has gone down as one of the greatest presidents in American history. If you add up his wins and losses on paper, his record would not look very solid. Still, Lincoln was a winner. It doesn’t matter what happened to you in 2017, just as it did not matter what happened to Lincoln in 1858. A failed year does not equate to a failed career.
Successes are created by past failures. You cannot have the light without the darkness. There has never been a person who sought innovation without tasting
failure. It is impossible to succeed all the time, with everything that you do. I tend to be a realist when it comes to business. You should hope and expect the best results, but mentally prepare yourself for the worst. I have fallen and risen so many times in my life that standing up and weathering the storm has become second nature. You keep pushing through rough years until you break through and reach a good one.
Failure is a part of life. You fall off of your bike as a kid, you scrape your knee, and then you slap a Band-Aid on it and get back to it. The process of perseverance never changes, even when the level does.
Rise and rise again, until lambs become lions.
